This image is a composite photo depicting the Native American heritage of the Great North Woods and the headwaters of the Mississippi River. The Caretaker Woman in the photo is a photo of a bronze sculpture by Jeff Savage of the Fond du Lac Band and the original can be found in Lake Itasca State Park in Minnesota at the headwaters of the Mississippi River. The Canoe was photographed at the Museum of Ojibwa Culture in St. Ignace, Michigan. The Ojibwe tribe of Native Americans is the predominant tribe in the North Woods of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. They believe that Women are the caretakers of the waters.
